Helping Retired Service Dogs

All over Eastern Idaho there are retired Police, Military, and Personal Assistant Service dogs that like any pet, need proper medical attention to live healthy happy lives, Because of the demanding nature of their jobs, many of these animals require additional care, especially as they age, for things like arthritis, injury care, and pain management.   In many cases, the trainers, former officers, veterans or adopting families need help paying for the care these dogs deserve.

Rex and Paco’s Stories

Rex and Paco are two of the retired Police Dogs your donation will help in our area.

Rex is a Belgian Malinois Who served as a working K9 for the Bannock County sheriffs office.

Sheriff Deputy Clint Brown runs his dog Paco through the obstacle course at the Bannock County Sheriff’s office.

Paco is a Dutch Shepherd who also served as a working K9 for the Bannock County Sheriffs office.

One of their handlers, Bannock Sheriffs Deputy Clint Brown describes them below:

“Both dogs were very playful and fun yet very dedicated and apprehending dangerous and violent criminals.

Both dogs were trained to respond to Dutch commands. They were trained and certified to detect the odor of dangerous drugs, in the apprehension of criminals. They were trained tracking dogs as well as in evidence location.   Paco and Rex assisted in numerous search and rescue efforts and countless tactical deployments.”

Most Police and Military dogs end up retiring in the care of their handlers.    But their elder years care can become a financial burden–a burden we look to share with your help and kind donations to the Alpine Veterinary Care Fund.    You can help Rex, Paco, and other local retired service dogs get the care they need, when they need it.
